2009 update to top 100 Educational Tools

The Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies has updated this sideshow for last year, and there are some exciting additions. As before, this and many other useful “Best Of” lists can be found at their web site. Click on any that you might not be familiar with to see what they have to offer. I always recommend listening to what other educators find useful, and this is a great way to add new tools to your proverbial toolbox.

Checking your facts with Mathway

I am liking this online math help site. Find some examples of the topic of your choice, and place them on your class web page. Simply click on the following math problem for an in depth explanation of how to solve it. How easy is that?

A way to invite creativity into your classroom

If you wold like to add a little personality to your classroom web page, possibly lighten up the presentation of some of your content, or try and inject some creativity into your project based learning. I recommend checking out Go!Animate. This web based publishing program does require an email to create an account, but the service is free and FUN!! Here's an example of something I put together in about 15 minutes, and I am still learning the interface. Your students will amaze you!!

Update on Flypaper- No More Free Rides

I regret to have to post that FLYPAPER which I listed some time ago as a great FREE resource for bringing content to your students has left BETA and has announced that beginning Sept 13, there will no longer be a free version. I am assuming that this will mean that any content you had hosted by their sight will most likely become unreachable after the switch. While there is no notification on their site (even the free download site) I was notified via email. This program is still a great resouce, but at $99 a year, I am not sure how many classroom teachers may find this indispensable. Only time will tell.

A little more for the lighter side

Sometimes technology can provide things that are simply FUN! Thank Goodness!! One of the niftier web apps I have come across lately is called ... BIGSTAGE....

This program is a Beta right now which means that it might not be perfect, and that the developers hope to learn about how users use and like/dislike their program. At www.bigstage.com you can create a free account and do stuff like... edtechguru gets into American Gothic OR EVEN... If you upload three photos of your face, it does an admirable job of creating a 3D avatar with your likeness... VERY COOL!!

Almost anyone can find something of use on Zoho. I have been a fan for a long time and a recent request for an online presentation option caused me to revisit Zoho with great results!

Another Free Publishing Option - Webon is EASY!

I have created a new free example of a service that could be utilized by teachers and or students that seems to be very nice. I don't think it has the pizazz that Wix provides, and it is not portable via embedding options like wix, sproutbuilder, mixbook or some others either, but as a classroom blog platform, or a fun side project to develop for a family or team project I really like this SIMPLE and FREE (with paid upgrades available) service.
